The process

Four steps from enquiry to first day

1. Talk to us

Phone the office or send an enquiry. Our Principal or Vice-Principal will answer any question you have about the school.

2. Visit the school

Come and stand in a classroom of four learners. It explains the school better than any brochure can.

3. Submit the form

Complete the application form in full, attach the checklist documents, and have both parents or guardians sign it.

4. Secure the place

The registration fee and the first month’s school fees must be fully paid before a learner may attend classes.

Application checklist

What to send with the form

Please ensure that the following documents accompany the application, where applicable.

  • Copy of the learner’s ID document or birth certificate
  • Copies of the ID documents of both parents or guardians
  • Latest school report
  • Proof of residential address
  • Relevant medical or psychological reports, if applicable
  • Subject choice form for Grades 10–12 (Annexure A of the application form)
  • Where applicable: a valid study permit or other relevant status documentation
False Bay High School requires written consent from both parents or guardians of a child seeking admission. Both must also sign the school-fee agreement, and each signatory accepts responsibility for the full fees — unless the school has been given a valid court order or other legally binding arrangement and has recorded it in writing.

Download the application form

One document covers everything: the application itself, the school rules and policies, the fee agreement and the Grade 10–12 subject choice form. It is published in English and Afrikaans.

Return completed forms to hoof@falsebayhigh.co.za or deliver them to the school office during office hours.

Important to know

Three things that surprise new families

None of these is hidden in the small print — they are set out in the application form every parent signs.

Admission runs a year at a time

Registration and admission are valid for one academic year. Towards the end of each year the school sends a re-application form, which must be returned by the stated date for the place to be held. The registration fee is not charged again.

Fees are paid in advance

School fees are due by the 3rd of the month, and the registration fee plus the first month must be settled before a learner may attend classes. Any early-payment discount applies only if the whole account is up to date.

One month’s written notice

If a learner is going to leave the school, one calendar month’s written notice is required. This protects both the family and the small classes the school is built around.

Common questions

Before you apply

Is there a school uniform?
No. No uniform is required — but learners must look neat and presentable, and the school’s appearance rules apply. Learners who do not meet that standard are spoken to individually.
Is the school Afrikaans or English?
Both. False Bay High has been dual-medium since 1999. Every learner takes both English and Afrikaans through to Grade 12, one of them at Home Language level, and the school’s own documents are published in both languages.
How many learners will be in my child’s class?
Typically two to six. The school caps total enrolment at 50 full-time learners a year, and works to a stated maximum ratio of one teacher to ten learners when a class is taught as a group.
Do you take learners who are struggling academically?
Yes. Small classes exist precisely so that a learner who has fallen behind can be caught up individually. Teachers are available for extra lessons as time allows, sometimes after normal school hours. Where a learner has a learning barrier, parents must supply the relevant psychological or medical reports so the school can support them properly.
What if my child needs extra support in exams?
Accommodations such as a reader, an amanuensis or an additional invigilator can be arranged. Parents are responsible for the cost of that supporting staff. Discuss your child’s needs with the Principal at application stage.
Can my child join part-way through the year?
Often, yes — subject to space in the grade and to the learner’s subject combination. Many of our learners transfer in from other schools. Phone the office to check availability.
How will I hear how my child is doing?
Communication by email is used to keep parents informed of a learner’s progress, alongside reports. In a school this size you will usually hear from us early, not at the end of a term.
Who pays for textbooks?
Learners buy their own. The school sometimes has second-hand books for sale. See books & stationery for the suppliers we recommend.
